Virginia men’s lacrosse head coach Lars Tiffany announced the team’s 2019 schedule on Friday (Nov. 30). The slate features 14 games, including nine home contests at Klöckner Stadium. Season tickets are now on sale and may be purchased online at VirginiaSports.com, by phone at (800) 542-8821 or in-person at the Virginia Athletics Ticket Office.
“The challenges are early and often for our 2019 team,” Tiffany said. “Knowledge of facing such a competitive schedule as a Virginia lacrosse player is one of the most significant reasons why our men choose UVA.”
The 2019 home schedule includes contests against Lehigh (Feb. 16), High Point (Feb. 18), Brown (March 10), Notre Dame (March 16), Richmond (March 29), Utah (March 31), North Carolina (April 6), VMI (April 16) and Marist (April 20).
The Cavaliers will travel to Loyola (Feb. 9), Princeton (Feb. 23), Syracuse (March 2), Johns Hopkins (March 23) and Duke (April 13).
The ACC Tournament will move to a new format in 2019 with the first two rounds of games taking place in Chapel Hill, N.C. The No. 4 and No. 5 seeds will play on April 25, with the winner advancing to the semifinals against the No. 1 seed on April 27. The No. 2 and No. 3 seeds will also meet on April 27 in the semifinals. The semifinal winners will meet in the ACC Championship game on May 4 or May 5 at the home of the highest remaining seed.
The broadcast selections for the Virginia men’s lacrosse team will be released and posted to VirginiaSports.comonce they are determined by the Atlantic Coast Conference and its television partners. Starting times should be considered tentative and subject to change based on the broadcast selections.
Tiffany enters his third season at UVA and his 15th overall as a head coach. Virginia is coming off a 12-6 season in 2018 and an NCAA first-round appearance. Tiffany’s team returns some of the nation’s best talent, including USILA All-Americans Dox Aitken (Jr., Villanova, Pa.) and Michael Kraus (Jr., New Canaan, Conn.). Aitken, a first-team honoree, set the UVA midfielder single-season record with 51 points and is the 12th UVA midfielder all-time to reach 30 goals for a season, finishing No 2 all-time among UVA midfielders in a season with 39 goals. Kraus, a second-team honoree, led UVA with 44 goals, 39 assists and 83 points, becoming only the third Cavalier in program history to tally 80 points in a season. Ryan Conrad (Sr., Timonium, Md.), a two-time captain, returns missing most of 2018 with an injury. In 2016 Conrad was named an USILA All-American after leading UVA with 63 ground balls, the most in the nation by a non-defensive player or faceoff specialist.
