The #8 Virginia men's lacrosse team saw thirteen different Cavaliers score a point in its 17-3 win over in-state opponent VMI Tuesday (March 24). Virginia improved to 7-2 on the season and 22-0 all-time against the Keydets in its first trip to Lexington since 2009. UVa also extended its midweek game win streak to 36 consecutive wins.
“I thought it was a good effort overall,” said Virginia men's lacrosse head coach Dom Starsia. “It is gratifying to be able to get everyone in the game. We have a lot of guys who work very hard every day. The last four games we have won by a total of five goals and we have not been able to substitute a great deal. For these guys who have been working at this since January, its nice that they are able to get a little time out there with the game uniform on. I thought we were clean with our fundamentals, I thought we handled the ball and shot it pretty well. It's was a good day for us and now we have to turn around and get ready for a good Richmond team.”
Greg Coholan, Mike D'Amario, Joe French and Owen Van Arsdale each had hat tricks in the victory. Coholan, and Arsdale led the Cavaliers with four points. D'Amario scored his first collegiate goal late in the first half on a Van Arsdale assist.
The Cavaliers took a 4-0 lead in the first quarter, and never looked back. They led 11-0 at halftime.
Virginia returns to Klockner Stadium Saturday to host Richmond for a 1:00 PM faceoff. It's the first time since 1986 that UVa will play two in-state opponents from the Commonwealth in the same week.
